Angels serve as some of the major characters and antagonists in Good Omens. They are celestial beings who reside in Heaven, and serve God.

History[]

Angels were created by God before humans, and at some point the angel Lucifer, alongside 10 million other angels (half of all angels), decided to rebel against God. Still, the rebellion failed, and all who took part in it were cast into Hell, where they became demons.

Powers and Abilities[]

  • Inherent Omniscience: All Angels have Omniscient Knowledge of all creations. They know everything about creations allowed to be known, although they cannot fully understand the material of the worlds they created; they need to learn it first.
  • Near Omnipotent Miracle Powers: All Angels are able to create unlimited miracles and magical phenomena that alter reality, time, space, matter and the universe itself in near omnipotent levels. They can do absolutely anything they want by performing miracles.
  • Shapeshifting: Angels can change their form to any size or shape that they want, at any time.

Notes and trivia[]

  • Neil Gaiman revealed that most angelic names had something to do with god or the angel's relationship with god. "Angelic names tend to discuss the relationship of the angel to god, or be a description of an aspect of god. The 'El' at the end of angelic names means 'God' (or more precisely 'god' because it can refer to lots of different gods)."[1]
  • Angels look like shooting stars when they are flying (seen in the first scene of "The Arrival" when Crowley calls after Aziraphale).
  • Some angels have physical disabilities. Saraqael, an archangel and main character of season 2, portrayed by Liz Carr, uses a flying wheelchair in Heaven and makes places wheelchair accessible on earth by performing miracles. Other background angels, in the scene where the angels talk to Job in "The Clue", are seen with only one arm and one hand. Another angel seems to have features common to Down's Syndrome.[2][3]
  • It is implied that all Angels are the same age.[4]
