Every Day is the sixth episode of Season 2 of the Prime Video original series Good Omens series, and twelfth overall. It premiered on July 28, 2023, and it is the second season finale of the season.

Synopsis[]

Crowley becomes a Heavenly bee and learns the truth about the Armageddon sequel. Aziraphale defends his bookshop from Shax's army and reveals his halo, Maggie and Nina become warriors, and Jim the assistant bookseller gets some hot chocolate. Crowley and Aziraphale get to the bottom of the mystery of the Matchbox. The Metatron brings an oatmilk latte, along with a final offer.

Plot[]

Aziraphale, Maggie, and Nina engage in a defensive operation to protect the bookshop after Maggie accidentally allows Demons to enter. During the course of their planning, Nina inquires about the Jane Austen-inspired ball only to discover that Aziraphale arranged it with the intention of playing matchmaker between her and Maggie. The Demons are repelled with fire extinguishers and encyclopedias, and Aziraphale even opens a gate to Heaven that incinerates them.

Simultaneously, in Heaven, Muriel uncovers Crowley's deception. He disguises himself as an Angel to avoid detection and persuades them to access Gabriel's record, despite lacking the clearance to do so. They discover footage of a meeting held by the higher-ups to plan Armageddon 2.0, which Gabriel opposes. Crowley is apprehended by Saraquel but allowed to attend the trial since he has already begun.

At the trial, the other Angels intend to cast Gabriel down, but Metatron points out that doing so would raise concerns about institutional issues. They instead demote Gabriel, erase his memory, and confiscate his tailored suits. Gabriel accepts this punishment, stating that he will return after clearing his desk and removing his suit.

In the CCTV footage, Gabriel removes his suit, places a matchstick in a box, and writes on the box's bottom before dropping it. He then heads to Earth unclothed, while the Archangels await him in the trial room. Michael suddenly realizes that Gabriel does not have a desk. Saraquel attempts to erase his memory but discovers that it is missing.

Back on Earth, with the Demons closing in, Aziraphale uses his Halo to burn all of them except for Shax. The situation prompts Saraquel to sound the alarm in Heaven, stating that this constitutes an act of war against Hell. Disheartened, Crowley returns to Earth, accompanied by the Archangels and Muriel.

Just as they arrive, Beelzebub, Furfur, and Dagon appear, ready for battle. Crowley intervenes and requests the box Gabriel brought. They discover that Gabriel wrote, "in the fly," on the box. Beelzebub notices the only fly in the room, which has been present in the bookshop since Gabriel arrived with the box. The fly must have fallen out of the matchstick and into the box.

Crowley persuades everyone that Jim, the fumbling book-seller, is Gabriel, unrecognizable due to their half-miracle, which is as powerful as an Archangel's. They give the box to Gabriel, who places the fly in his eye and regains all of his memories.

We see several flashbacks as Gabriel recovers his memories. He had met with Beelzebub after the failed Apocalypse to plan Armageddon 2.0. However, they both decided against it and continued to meet, for no apparent reason, whether it is to pretend to drink beer or listen to music.

In one of the flashbacks, Beelzebub tells Gabriel that they enjoy the song playing, "Every Day" by Buddy Holly. Gabriel adjusts the jukebox at The Resurrectionist pub to play the song indefinitely. Beelzebub gives him the fly, which is larger on the inside, and he is moved as no one has ever given him anything before.

Everyone is surprised to learn that Gabriel was supposed to go to Beelzebub, not Aziraphale. The Archangel and the demonic overlord hold hands and hint at their feelings for each other. Maggie finds it romantic, causing Michael to consider turning the humans into salt.

Crowley quickly ushers the humans outside, and Nina accepts Maggie's help in the cafe as the line of customers is long. Metatron orders a cup of coffee and comments on the store's name, "Give Me Coffee Or Give Me Death." He asks if anyone has requested death and says it is predictable when Nina says no.

As Crowley returns to the bookshop, he notices the commotion inside and how Aziraphale quiets everyone. Hell seeks to punish Gabriel and Beelzebub for their treachery, while Heaven seeks to order the punishment of sending the traitors to Hell.

Crowley suggests fleeing to Alpha Centauri, and the now traitorous duo agrees. Shax is unable to let them leave, but Beelzebub tempts her by passing on her title of Duke of Hell to Shax. She and Gabriel depart, and now Michael reminds Aziraphale of "extreme sanctions."

Metatron enters at that moment, shushing them as Michael lacks such authority. He sends them all back to Heaven, except for Muriel, who tries to make themselves as inconspicuous as possible. He asks Aziraphale to take a walk, and as the Angel looks expectantly at Crowley, the Demon ushers him out. Metatron's smile fades as he stares at Crowley before leaving.

Crowley mentions wanting some "us time" and an alcoholic breakfast at the Ritz with Aziraphale to process everything. Muriel thinks they are included, but Crowley firmly says no and gives them a book by Iain Banks.

As he waits eagerly for Aziraphale's arrival, he takes the opportunity to tidy up the space. Maggie and Nina arrive and criticize him for trying to pair people up, even if it's well-intentioned. Nina makes it clear that she won't be Maggie's rebound and asks her to wait until she's ready. They suggest that he and Aziraphale should have a talk.

Aziraphale enters excitedly, interrupting Crowley's planned confession to share Metatron's proposal. Metatron wants to appoint Aziraphale as the Supreme Archangel and give Crowley back his angelic status. Crowley is surprised that Aziraphale didn't refuse the offer, given Heaven's previous attempts to end the world. Aziraphale believes he can bring about change, which frustrates Crowley.

Rather than argue, Crowley decides to express his true feelings in case he never gets another chance. He romantically proposes that they run away together, like Gabriel and Beelzebub once did, pointing out that they've always depended on each other and never needed anyone else. He suggests that both Heaven and Hell are toxic.

Aziraphale suggests that Crowley should come with him to Heaven, but Crowley points out that he can't leave his bookshop. Aziraphale responds by saying that nothing lasts forever, but Crowley agrees in disappointment. Aziraphale admits that he needs Crowley and that they can be together as Angels. Crowley sighs and points out that no nightingales are singing, expressing sadness that it could have been just the two of them together. Aziraphale looks away.

Suddenly, Crowley kisses Aziraphale, leaving him stunned. Aziraphale looks like he's about to say something, but doesn't. Instead, he forgives Crowley, and the Demon scoffs and walks away. Aziraphale tries to collect himself while touching his lips.

Metatron arrives and isn't surprised that Crowley rejected the offer. Aziraphale is torn and asks about his bookshop. Metatron tells him that Muriel will take care of it, and they head to the elevator to Heaven. Crowley watches them go, and Metatron excitedly talks about his big plans, such as the Second Coming. Aziraphale stops in his tracks upon hearing this, looking at Crowley one last time before getting into the elevator.

Crowley drives off in his car, with 'A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square' playing on the radio. However, he stops the music instantly, his face contorting with emotions as he tries to come to terms with what just happened.
