John Device is a minor character in Amazon series Good Omens. He is the husband of Virtue Device, daughter of Agnes Nutter. Anathema Device is one of their descendants.
Background[]
When Agnes Nutter is burned at the stake, she leaves behind a box and The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch to be given to her daughter, Virtue, and son-in-law, John. The prophecies are accurate but meaningless to the couple in 1658.
Significance in series[]
"The Book"[]
After Agnes Nutter is burned at the stake, she leaves behind a box and The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch to be given to her daughter, Virtue, and son-in-law, John. The book contains several thousand prophecies, mostly relating to her family through the centuries, and each and every single one true, but meaningless to the couple in 1658. The book is passed down through the generations until reaching Anathema Device, Agnes Nutter's great-great-great-great-great-granddaughter.
"The Very Last Day of the Rest of Their Lives"[]
There was a second manuscript written but never published. It was kept in a box and entrusted to a law firm for safe keeping for 300 years. The box was delivered 300 years later to Agnes' descendant, Anathema, in 2019 after the Armageddon-that-wasn't. Anathema burns the book instead of being a descendant all of her life.
