Description[]
Official description of Good Omens season 2 from Prime Video:
Originally based on Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman’s international best-selling novel, Good Omens 2 explores storylines that go beyond the original source material to illuminate the ineffable friendship between Aziraphale (Michael Sheen), a fussy angel and rare-book dealer, and the fast-living demon Crowley (David Tennant). Having been on Earth since The Beginning, and with the Apocalypse thwarted, the duo are getting back to easy living amongst mortals in London’s Soho. That is, until the archangel Gabriel (Jon Hamm) turns up unexpectedly at the door of Aziraphale's bookshop with no memory of who he is or how he got there. While Crowley is leery as to why the archangel has come to the bookshop, Aziraphale is keen to solve the mystery behind Gabriel’s condition. However, hiding the archangel from both Heaven and Hell quickly disrupts their lives in unforeseen ways. To solve this mystery and thwart Heaven and Hell in the process, the duo will need more than a miracle; they’ll need to once again rely on each other.
A mystery that takes us from before The Beginning, to biblical times, grave robbing in Victorian Edinburgh, the Blitz of 1940s England, all the way through to modern day, Good Omens 2 stars Michael Sheen and David Tennant as angel Aziraphale and demon Crowley, respectively. Also reprising their roles are Jon Hamm as archangel Gabriel, Doon Mackichan as archangel Michael, and Gloria Obianyo as archangel Uriel. Returning this season in new roles are Miranda Richardson as demon Shax, Maggie Service as Maggie, and Nina Sosanya as Nina, with new faces joining the misfits in Heaven and Hell: Liz Carr as angel Saraqael, Quelin Sepulveda as angel Muriel, and Shelley Conn as demon Beelzebub.
Neil Gaiman continues as executive producer and co-showrunner along with executive producer Douglas Mackinnon, who also returned to direct all six episodes. Rob Wilkins of Narrativia, representing Terry Pratchett’s estate, John Finnemore, and BBC Studios Productions’ head of comedy Josh Cole also executive produce, with Finnemore serving as co-writer alongside Gaiman. Good Omens is based on the well-loved and internationally best-selling novel by Pratchett and Gaiman. The new season is produced by Amazon Studios, BBC Studios Productions, The Blank Corporation, and Narrativia.[2]Episodes[]

Development[]
On June 29, 2021, the series was renewed for a second season consisting of six episodes.[4]
On June 10, 2023, Hilly and Hannah Hindi, the siblings behind parodies on The Hillywood Show mentioned how the Good Omens Parody took a little longer than usual in pre-production due to some restrictions from the pandemic still in place. Although, that was not the only reason for the extra “Wait and See”… As fans now know, there was a big surprise in the Good Omens Parody that had to be kept secret until the big moment! The siblings joked with Afterbuzz that when scripting, we never even knew there would be a Season 2.[5]
On July 7, 2023, Gaiman stated that, "Because the hypothetical season three exists, there is a story that is there, and I didn’t feel that we could drive straight from season one into that," Gaiman explains. "I knew what the stakes were. I knew what the parameters were. I also knew that I had David [Tennant] and Michael [Sheen]. I had the angels from plot number one. I had demons from plot number one. And with anybody that I wanted to bring back, but didn’t have room for right now, I did not have to bring them back as themselves."[6]
On July 9, 2023 it was announced that Prime Video is previewing the “ineffable” Season 2 of Good Omens at that year’s Comic-Con International in San Diego. The Good Omens Season 2 panel will be happening on Friday, July 21, 2023.[7]
As of July 11, 2023, special screenings for the new season began to take place.[8]
The second season was released in its entirety on Amazon Prime Video on July 28, 2023.[9]
Filming[]
The second season began filming in late 2021 in Scotland.[10]
On August 2, 2023, the set for season two was unveiled , and it was stated how "you can walk up and down Whickber Street, browse the record shop, the magic shop, and of course Aziraphale’s bookshop, and even stop for a coffee at Give Me Coffee Or Give Me Death. It has a genuinely magical feel to it, and an extraordinary amount of care has gone into making every detail part of the show’s world. Take a walk with us, and we’ll explore just a few of its hidden secrets".[11]
On Aug. 11, 2023 it was stated that Michael Ralph, the production designer, played a crucial role in creating the look and feel of the Good Omens universe. The decision to expand the world beyond the novel led to the creation of a larger bookshop set and the inclusion of new shops in Soho, adding depth and charm to the series.[12]
Title sequence[]
A first look at the new opening title was unveiled, and just like the first season’s opening sequence, season 2’s is a mishmash of illustration, physical props, computer effects, and more — and also chock full of little details and Easter eggs. Peter Anderson, the creative director at Peter Anderson Studio, the team behind the title sequences for both seasons of the show, says that the cinema scene will change from week-to-week to keep up with the new episodes. His favorite little detail, though, involves the scenes in hell because “If you look closely a character from the series one titles is trying to escape hell again!” he tells Polygon over email.[13]
However there are definitely some details that will only make sense once the season unfolds. “We started the sequence for series two as a direct follow on from series one,” Anderson says. “The content of the titles was an obsessively detailed telling of the new series story with a few gems for the avid fan.”[13]
Casting[]
On December 16, 2021 it was announced that Jon Hamm was confirmed to be back for this second season and have a much bigger role Along with Doon Mackichan and Gloria Obianyo also returning. They would also be joined by Liz Carr, Quelin Sepulveda and Shelley Conn would be taking over the role of Beelzebub[14][15] By November 02, 2021, the likes of Paul Adeyefa, Michael McKean, Miranda Richardson,Maggie Service, Reece Shearsmith and Nina Sosanya were confirmed as part of the upcoming season 2 cast, but their specific characters each actor plays will be revealed at a later time.[16]
In this season, some new cast members include Tracy Wiles provides the voice of the elevator that goes to Heaven and Hell. As well as Alex Norton plays Tulloch, a Scotsman who encounters Aziraphale.

- On July 11, 2023, Gaiman said in a tweet that "The hardest thing for me about the WGA strike is not being part of this. Not doing the press, not being at the cast and crew/press screening last night. But I'm so proud of our actors for being there and telling people about what we made."[19]
- On July 12, 2023, further information information about special screenings in New York and Edinburgh was released.[20]
- The premiere date, July 28, 2023, is the 33rd anniversary of the publishing of the original novel Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch, which was the basis for the first season.[1]
- The premiere date was officially revealed in a Good Omens parody video released by The Hillywood Show in collaboration with Neil Gaiman.[1]
- On June 5, 2023, Colleen Doran explained through her personal website that she had come onboard the Good Omens: The Official (and Ineffable) Graphic Novel project to adapt the story in this medium.[21]
- On July 14, 2023, it was announced that due to the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, a panel for the series was cancelled.[22]
- On July 17, 2023, Maggie Service gave a fairly ominous teaser about what to expect from the season 2 episodes, stating that, “Where we end, I think, is so beautifully written because none of it’s tied up in a bow, none of it’s Hollywood magic. It’s real within fantasy - and what is going to happen next?"[23]
- On July 20, 2023, before the start of the SAG-AFTRA strike, Tennant and Sheen opened up about reprising their roles as everyone's favorite grumpy demon and fussy angel. Originally, both actors assumed the series would be one and done. But they became fast friends on set, and in between shots, they would chat with Gaiman about ideas for a potential season 2. Little by little, Tennant says, the second season "crept into existence."[24]
- On July 22, 2023, Tennant and Sheen talked about their chemistry and how most fans ended up shipping them as a couple. But both of them admitted that they weren't at all prepared for how big the fan base for the series and their respective characters would be.[25]
- On July 23, 2023, it was teased that Season 2 would go onto expand on the universe created by Gaiman, introducing new elements not found in the original book. The TV series gives more prominence to Aziraphale and Crowley, expanding on their backstory and developing their relationship. In addition, there are several key differences between the Good Omens novel and the show, including the expanded role of Gabriel, the absence of the Four Other Riders of the Apocalypse, and added scenes like the cocoa prophecy.[26]
- On July 27, 2023, a more in depth explanation for why the song "Everyday" is important to the series in this season was revealed.[27]
- On August 13, 2023 Gaiman, had a perfect explanation for anyone who is wondering why Gabriel and Beelzebub haven't locked lips in Season 2. The writer provided an answer on his Tumblr page in response to one fan's question: he stated that he didn't consider kissing scenes a direct representation of love on-screen, citing Anathema Device and Newton Pulsifer's makeout session in Season 1, back when had they literally just met, as an example. "I don't think kissing scenes have much to do with love. Anathema and Newt kissed when they barely knew each other in Season 1, and none of the other couples who loved each other did," wrote Gaiman.[28]
